[ THE ] 2018 HOLIDAY GIFT EDIT

It should go without saying that we aren’t the type to brave the crowded lines for Black Friday sales. I mean….can you imagine us?! As far as we’re concerned, no flatscreen TV is worth breaking a sweat or getting elbowed in the face for.

Instead, our typical holiday shopping purchases take place from under a blanket with a mug of tea or flute of champagne in hand. I guess you can say it’s where we’re most inspired. Which is why we wanted to create another gift guide so you too can do the least while doing the most. You’re welcome.

[ THE ] RAINBOW EDIT

We’ve heard that every time a rainbow item is purchased, an angel gets its wings. Just saying.

[ THE ] TRAVEL EDIT

Carry-on items that double as survival mechanisms.

[ THE ] SURVIVING NOT THRIVING EDIT

Our life motto. Not sorry about it.

[ THE ] COZY EDIT

Who’s cozier, Joanna or a hibernating bear? We’ll leave it up for discussion.

[ THE ] ROBERTA APPROVED EDIT

When Roberta approves, the world takes a deep cleansing breath. *exhales*

[ THE ] CHAMPAGNE EDIT

“A life without champagne is not a life worth living.” -Anonymous. (Okay…it’s me, Clea.)

[ THE ] BEAUTY EDIT

Psssst, we have a secret. There’s nothing wrong with buying a gift set for a loved one, only to unbox it, grab the item you want, and wrap the remaining items in a separate gift bag.

Or maybe that’s just us? Alright, just be the better person and gift the whole set. They’ll love it.

[ THE ] FASHION EDIT

What we love when we’re not wearing sneakers, black leggings, and our rotation of THE shirts and/or hoodie. Style icons, basically.

[ THE ] HUSBAND EDIT

Because he deserves something, too.

[ THE ] KID EDIT

We prefer gifts that don’t take hours to put together, make our lives easier, and look good in the house at the same time.

*Oh, and this seems like an appropriate time to shamelessly plug our NEW BOOK (!!!!), The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals.

You can preorder it here. Let’s be honest…the fact that we finished writing this book is a Christmas/Hanukkah miracle in itself.

Mark your calendars, y'all. Mother's Day is this Sunday (the 13th) and if you're like us, you have probably forgotten about it until now. From sunrise to sunset, life can be total chaos so for that...we thank the internet for expedited shipping.

FOR YOURSELF

If you're a mom, you need a break. If you're not, you still do. TREAT YOURSELF, call it necessary self-care, and put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door handle. Bye.

Also, we have been told that each of these products are top-rated. We need to say that because...we are STILL NOT beauty bloggers. Just compulsive shoppers.

[ THE ] YOUNG HOUSE LOVE PODCAST

You guys!! The podcast we recorded for Young House Love is up on iTunes! We chatted with them for over an hour (because we had SO much to talk about and group vacations to plan), but somehow they managed to edit us down into an intelligible segment! The entire podcast is linked below, but here is the Cliffs Notes version:

  • I (Clea) grew up in LA and know some celebrities, but do NOT know Amal Clooney which really upsets Joanna and she thinks I should just try harder.
  • We organized 2 of GP's homes and live for her.
  • Biggest organizing mistake: YOU CANNOT TAKE SHORTCUTS
  • Biggest conundrum: The organizing process results in a huge mess! It's the only way to put it back in proper order.
  • Biggest organizing to-do: Group like-items together
  • No one needs 11 face creams
  • Mantra: You get the item or the space, but not both. Decide the value of the item versus the value of negative space, and let that guide your decision whether to keep or purge.
  • Correct products are game changers. Incorrect products are just mo' products, mo' problems.
  • 3 shopping tricks: Take measurements; Make yourself a list; Overbuy and return
  • Best way to get your feet wet: Always start with a drawer.
  • Best pantry hack: Back stock bins for overflow.
  • General pantry categories will keep you from pantry paralysis.
  • Setup systems around your habits instead of trying to adapt your habits to new systems.
  • Lose the packaging whenever possible.
  • LABELS ARE LIFE.
  • We earn the least fun mom award every time.
  • Stella will probably not be working for The Home Edit when she grows up.
  • We're kind of a lot.

FAVORITE PRODUCTS LISTED IN SHOW NOTES

1. Divided Turntable

The Divided Turntable is one of the most versatile products, and can be used all over the house. It's our go-to item for creative a caddy, and we use it in a playroom for art supplies, tea and coffee in the kitchen, cleaning supplies in the laundry room, and pharmacy and first aid in the bathroom.

2. Natural Baskets

Storage baskets are an essential staple for every room. A seagrass basket compliments all styles of home decor, and neatly contains your odds-and-ends.

3. Huggable Hangers

The single best thing you can do to transform your closet, is to use a good set of hangers and toss anything mismatched. Your clothes will be properly cared for, and your closet will look refined and polished.

Big thank you to John and Sherry for including us in their show, and being some of our favorite online friends!

[ THE FAVORITES THINGS ] VDAY EDITION

There are a lot of Valentines Day gift guides out there. So we decided to make a treat yo self V Day edition of THE favorite things!

1. You Are Loved Trinket Tray

Trinket trays are great for holding jewelry, keys, change, and all the little bits and baubles. We love placing them in the bathroom, on nightstands, and in the entryway.

2. Kitchen Tools

There's something about matching kitchen utensils to make you feel like a fully grown adult. Nothing mismatched, nothing from college.. it's like a dream come true for your drawer. We prefer all white silicone, or the all black collection from KitchenAid - but pick your color palette, and get yourself a new set!

3. Minted Pinboards

We're obsessed with everything from Minted, but we just recently came across these pinboards. There are a ton of different prints that would fit a playroom, a mudroom, or in the kitchen command center.

4. Agate Coasters

Our rule of thumb: Never have more people at your house than you have coasters for.  Moral of the story: Get really good coasters.

5. Floor Bins

All playrooms and kids rooms should have great floor bins. You can fill them with dolls, or books, or any other bulky toy. They help clear up space and add to the room's decor.

6. Simplified Planner

We have long been obsessed with Emily Ley and her line of planners. They are such a good way to prepare yourself daily, and organize all the aspects of your busy life.

7. Wooden Trays

The new Modern by Dwell line at Target is giving us with ALL THE HEART EYES. These trays are an absolute must have and make a great addition to an entry way table or a coffee table.

8. Kitchen Canisters

We are clearly fans of canisters, and even bigger fans of labeling. These kitchen canisters really get evvvverthing just right.

9. Marble Utensil Holder

Trends come and go, but we like to believe that white marble is here forever. Containing your kitchen utensils with a marble holder instantly elevates your countertop, and holds your most-used items.

10. Lazy Susan Art Caddy

The day we saw this rainbow turntable, we actually screamed out loud. OUT LOUD. It's a thing of beauty and we can't wait to use it in a million different ways!

We love all y'all!
